After the Aam Aadmi Party government received criticism for the long list of exemptions to its odd-even licence plate number scheme, the Delhi High Court on Wednesday sought the state government's response on why women and two-wheelers are exceptions to the rule. Delhi police as well as some opposition leaders have pointed out that the many exemptions will make the rule harder to enforce.
The Delhi government, from January 1, will allow vehicles with odd and even licence plate number to ply only on alternate days, for 15 days. The state government had been heavily criticised earlier for not taking measures to check Delhi's rising pollution levels.
