The Delhi government has tied up with social networking giant Twitter to provide real-time public transport information to commuters during the 15-day trial of the odd-even car number plate scheme. Delhi Transport Minister Gopal Rai said that Twitter will share information about bus routes, metro services and autorickshaws during the road-rationing experiment starting January 1.
Twitter users can get the required details by tweeting using #PollutionFreeDelhi, followed by their points of origin and destination. In addition, users who do not wish to publicise their location can send a message to @transportdelhi.
While the odd-even scheme is in force, the government will also run special buses to Noida and Ghaziabad, and increase the frequency of metro trains. According to the transport minister, around 25,000 auto drivers have registered with the PoochhO app, which commuters can use to hire autorickshaws and taxis. People can get the link to download the app by giving a missed call to 9243007040.
