A report released by the Uttar Pradesh veterinary department confirmed on Monday that Mohammad Akhlaq and his family ate mutton, according to media reports. The Uttar Pradesh police is still waiting for a report from the forensic lab tests being conducted on the meat as a final diagnosis. Akhlaq, 52, was killed in a village in Uttar Pradesh's Dadri district on September 28, after a mob attacked his family for allegedly eating beef.
The police on Wednesday filed the chargesheet in the case, naming 15 people as accused, including one juvenile. They also arrested two people involved in the case, saying that two others are absconding.
