Reliance Jio Infocomm, the telecom venture of Reliance Industries Limited, launched its new 4G service for company employees on Sunday. This was seen as a soft launch, with the company expected to roll out the service for its customers early next year. Bharti Airtel and Vodafone have already started 4G services in some cities, and Idea is expected to offer it in March.
4G technology gives users significantly faster internet speeds on their mobile devices, and enables high-definition video conferencing.
“India and Indians cannot afford to be left behind in this new world. India is ranked around 150 in the Internet and mobile broadband penetration out of 230 countries, Jio is conceived to change this,” said RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani, according to The Indian Express.
