Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s office on Friday claimed he talked a man out of jumping off the Bosphorus Bridge on Christmas day. According to an AP report, Erdogan’s motorcade was on the bridge when they saw the man sobbing and about to commit suicide. Television reports showed the cars stopping and the President’s aide getting off and surrounding him. They can later be heard telling him that the President wants to speak to him.
The man was then escorted to the car and Erdogan spoke to him with a mobile phone pressed to one ear. An official from Erdogan’s office said the President promised to help the man, who seemed to be depressed because of family problems.
