Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar will meet Pakistani Foreign Affairs chief Sartaj Aziz in Islamabad on January 15, PTI reported. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, during her visit to Pakistan earlier this month, had announced both countries will hold bilateral talks in the months to come. Swaraj has been firm in her stance that both countries must hold talks, and work together towards ending terrorism in the region. Pakistan then proposed both countries’ foreign secretaries meet in January to discuss the details of bilateral talks and other issues.

Their meeting will come after several meets were held between the two countries in the last month alone. India and Pakistani national security advisors met in Bangkok in December before Swaraj visited Pakistan for the Heart of Asia conference. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also met his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif on the sidelines of the Paris climate change summit, and again when he made an unscheduled stop in Lahore on Friday.
