At least 100 people were killed in Nigeria on Thursday when a gas tanker truck ignited a huge fire at a crowded industrial gas plant, reported the Associated Press. Several people had lined up to refill their cooking gas cylinders in time for Christmas when the incident occurred.

A witness said the fire broke out when the tanker truck left after discharging fresh gas at the plant without observing the prescribed cooling time. The fire raged for hours, before firemen eventually managed to put out the blaze. The disaster took place in Nnewi in southeast Nigeria.
