An Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation bus crashed into two other vehicles on Monday after a monkey took over its steering wheel. The bus was due to leave in half an hour, so the driver was taking a nap while the conductor stepped away to find more passengers, The Times of India reported. It was then that a monkey decided to hop into the vehicle and turn on the ignition before setting it off in second gear. The driver managed to regain control of it only after it had crashed into two other parked buses. The monkey fled after the driver woke up and chased it away.
Passengers got out of the bus’ way, not knowing what had caused the disturbance. UPSRTC regional manager SK Sharma said the monkey menace is a real threat in the area. The animals regularly cause disturbances at state bus stops and workshops, and UPSRTC has reportedly asked municipal authorities to hire an agency to manage the problem.
