Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis on Tuesday were named Women’s Doubles World Champions by the International Tennis Federation for their success in 2015. The pair won two Grand Slam titles, at Wimbledon and the US Open, PTI reported. They won seven other tournaments, including the season-ending WTA Finals, after teaming up in March 2015. They ended the year with 55 wins and just seven losses.
Both tennis stars said they were honoured to receive the award. Hingis won the award last in the year 2000, when she was named a singles champion. The tennis body also declared Serena Williams and Novak Djokovic as the ITF’s World Champions for the year.
