Islamic State militants on Tuesday bombed a school district in eastern Syria, which lies in a government-held area within the city of Deir al-Zor. Reuters reported that the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said at least nine children were killed and 20 people were injured in the shelling. Many children were also killed in earlier attacks by the militant group in Syria this month.
Iraqi troops on Tuesday renewed efforts to recapture the Syrian city of Ramadi, an IS base. Civilians have also been killed during air raids by countries opposing the IS, which are bombing Syria. The civil war in Syria has driven over 10 million from the country and killed more than 2.5 million people.
