The Mumbai Police on Tuesday arrested slain artist Hema Upadhyay's estranged husband Chintan Upadhyay in the double murder case, according to media reports. The two had filed for divorce in 2010.
The bodies of Hema Upadhyay and her lawyer Harsh Bhambhani were found cut and wrapped in cardboard boxes thrown in a drain in the northern Mumbai suburb of Kandivali on December 12.
Chintan Upadhyay was arrested after the police found inconsistency in his statements while being questioned on Monday, reported PTI. He is the fifth accused person to be arrested in the case so far. The prime accused, Vidyadhar Rajbhar, is still absconding.
In 2013, Upadhyay had filed a complaint of harassment against her husband, alleging that he had painted obscene sketches on the walls of their home to humiliate her. Bhambani had represented her in the case. However, the court had ruled that since the figures had been painted in Chintan Upadhyay's own room, no offense had been committed.
