The Rajya Sabha on Friday resolved to pass six bills in the remainder of the Winter session of Parliament. Following an all-party meeting called by chairman of the house and vice-president Hamid Ansari, members decided to end the ongoing protests and have the house function properly from Monday. The Winter session ends on Wednesday.
However, there was no consensus among members on the Goods & Service Tax Bill during the all-party meeting. Ansari called the meeting after the central government asked the chairman to act against Opposition members who were disrupting proceedings.
Earlier, both houses continued to see protests from the Opposition following the political controversy in Arunachal Pradesh. In the Rajya Sabha, protesting members demanded the recall of Arunachal Pradesh Governor Jyoti Prasad Rajkhowa, and forced three adjournments in the pre-lunch session. In the Lok Sabha, Congress members led by Sonia Gandhi staged a walkout after claiming to not being allowed to have their say on the matter.
