At least four people from India were named in a list of unclaimed bank accounts that was made public by Switzerland on Wednesday. The list contains more than 2,600 accounts and 80 safe deposit boxes, the Hindustan Times reported.
The four Indians include Pierre Vachek, whose place of residence is mentioned as ‘Bombay,’ Bahadur Chandra Singh from Dehradun, Dr Mohan Lal from Paris and Kishore Lall, whose place of residence was not disclosed.
The Swiss Banking Ombudsman and the Swiss Bankers Association has said that relatives and heirs of these persons will have 1 to 5 years’ time to submit their claims for these accounts. “If no legitimate party claims the assets that have been published within one year of publication, the banks must by law transfer the assets in question to the government,” SBA added. They mentioned only those accounts that have at least 500 Swiss francs and have remained unclaimed for at least 60 years.
The accounts hold an estimated 44 million Swiss francs (about Rs 300 crore). The amount held in the accounts of the Indians was not revealed. The list also includes a great number of Swiss names, besides people from Germany, France, the UK, the US, Turkey, Austria and other countries.
