Tainted cricket administrator Lalit Modi has been reinstated as chief of the Rajasthan Cricket Association after BJP leader Amit Pathan withdrew the no-confidence motion against him on Tuesday.

Modi had been voted the president of the RCA in May last year after which the Board of Control for Cricket in India had suspended the association. Pathan, who was the interim president, had filed the no-confidence motion in March against Modi and two other office-bearers of the association, but has now withdrawn it.

Modi tweeted his relief:

The Indian Express quoted Pathan as saying, "Cricket had stopped in the districts and players were suffering because of that. Plus, we couldn’t get the required numbers. These guys [the Modi faction] are used to litigation so they would have stretched it forever. So we decided to withdraw our motion in the interest of cricket."

The BCCI, which had suspended Modi after the 2013 IPL spot-fixing scandal, has not responded to these developments and has not put out an official statement.
