The defence ministry on Monday formed a one-man committee to look into implementing the one rank, one pension scheme, which has caused much dispute between the Centre and ex-servicemen. Justice (retired) L Narasimha Reddy, former chief justice of Patna High Court, will head the committee and will give his recommendations within six months, said the ministry.
However, the veterans have demanded a five-member committee look into the scheme, including three of their representatives, and have asked for it to be implemented within a month.
This comes a day after the protesting ex-servicemen threatened to intensify their agitation against the government's OROP notification released on November 7, calling it diluted. The veterans have demanded identical pensions for all those who retire at the same rank and have served the same length of time.
