The central government on Monday asked the Delhi High Court to extend the detention of the juvenile convicted in the Delhi 2012 gangrape case. He is due to be released on Sunday, PTI reported. The Centre has said there are many aspects missing in his post-release rehabilitation plan, which needed to be looked into. The court was hearing a plea filed by Bharatiya Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy seeking a stay on the convict’s release.

The post-release plan does not mention the convict's mental health status or his willingness to continue living "among society", additional solicitor general Sanjay Jain said. The court reserved its order in the case. Many, including the rape victim’s parents, who have criticised the release of the convict, who was 17 when he committed the crime.
