The Mumbai Police said on Sunday that they have found the bodies of artist Hema Upadhyay and lawyer Harsh Bhambani in a sewage drain in the northern suburb of Kandivali. The two bodies were found packed in cardboard boxes and wrapped in plastic in the drain, reported The Hindu.
The police have registered a case of murder and destruction of evidence against unknown persons. "We are still awaiting the cause of death and other aspects of the murder are being looked into," said Deputy Commissioner of Police Vikram Deshmane, Zone IX.
In 2013, Upadhyay had filed a complaint of harassment against her husband Chintan, alleging that he had painted obscene sketches on the walls of their home to humiliate her. Bhambani had represented her in the case. However, the court had ruled that since the figures had been painted in Chintan Upadhyay's own room, no offense had been committed.
