The Spanish embassy in the Sherpur area of Kabul was hit by a car bomb attack on Friday evening, according to Afghan officials. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack on a guest house in the embassy compound, reported Reuters. However, AFP reported that it was not immediately clear if the guest house was inside the embassy premises. Several embassies are located in the area.
Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said that the suicide attacks targeted "a guesthouse of invaders" in the Sherpur area of Kabul. He added that clashes took place and resulted in heavy casualties, reported CNN. Afghan officials have, however, not confirmed any casualties. A foreign ministry spokesperson confirmed the attack on the embassy, adding that details were still being gathered, reported AFP.
