Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Friday said that his government would extend whatever support the Centre needed in the Ganga river clean-up. Yadav said he did not know what funds the Centre was allocating Uttar Pradesh for the clean-up, but added that the state would cooperate and have been cooperating with the central government's sanitation efforts, reported PTI.
The Ganga passes through five states including Uttar Pradesh. The Centre announced plans to begin cleaning up the river, which includes surface cleaning activities as well as repairing lands along the river and recycling sewage water flowing into it from villages on its banks. It has also recently announced a ban on any constructions along the river.
