President Barack Obama spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi through a phone call on Wednesday, even as reports claimed that differences between India and the United States persist during the ongoing climate change talks in Paris. The leaders discussed issues that have been raised at the talks being held in Paris, and “emphasised their personal commitment to secure a strong climate change agreement this week”, a White House statement said.

The US has been insisting that developing countries like China and India take up more responsibility for reducing emissions. Earlier in the week, US Secretary of State John Kerry met Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar as well. While a draft of the agreement at Paris has been drawn up, more discussions will follow to work on the draft. Obstacles are arising with the main hurdle now being differences between the so-called developed and developing nations.
