The Supreme Court on Monday refused to hear a petition seeking to direct the central government and the Parliament to enact a uniform civil code in the country. The petition was filed by a Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party leader in a bid to end the alleged discrimination faced by Muslim women, reported PTI.
A bench headed by the newly-appointed Chief Justice of India TS Thakur said the apex court could not direct the parliament to introduce a bill on this subject. It also warned the petitioner that the court would take serious action if such petitions are filed without regard to the law. It added that those being allegedly discriminated against have not come forward for redressal.
