An earthquake of about 7.2 magnitude on the Richter scale struck Tajikistan on Monday, according to the United States Geological Survey. Mild tremors were felt in parts of north India, including Srinagar and the National Capital Region. The quake's epicentre was around 100 kilometres west of the city of Murghab, which is located in the Pamir Mountains, and at a depth of 28 kilometres. No damage has been reported yet.
A major earthquake struck Afghanistan on October 26 this year, which measured 7.5 on the Richter scale. The quake caused extensive damage and killed almost 400 people. The tremors were felt as far as Gujarat, and were followed by a smaller quake on October 29.
