One person was killed and three others were injured in a massive fire that broke out Monday afternoon in the Mumbai suburb of Kandivali. According to fire brigade officials, the incident took place in the Damu Nagar slums in Kandivali East. At least 16 fire engines, 12 water tankers, five fire brigade officials, along with jawans, were rushed to the spot to douse the flames, reported PTI.
While the deceased person, which India Today reported was a child, was charred beyond recognition and has yet to be identified, the injured have been admitted to nearby Shatabdi Hospital, the police said. Although the exact cause of the fire is not known, local residents claimed that the blaze occurred due to a series of cylinder explosions in the hutments. CNN-IBN reported that the fire had broken out in a godown in the area.
