External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj will visit Islamabad for two days, where which she is expected meet her Pakistani counterpart Sartaj Aziz on Tuesday. She will then attend a conference on Afghanistan on Wednesday. Swaraj will lead the Indian delegation for the Heart of Asia conference, the fifth ministerial meeting on Afghanistan, the external affairs ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup tweeted on Monday. Swaraj is also expected to meet Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on the sidelines of the conference.
This is the first visit to Pakistan by an Indian External Affairs Minister since SM Krishna went there in 2012. At that time, the two countries had inked a deal on liberalising visa norms. Swaraj will be accompanied by Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar, who was also present at the meeting between the Indian and Pakistani national security advisors in Bangkok on Sunday.
