External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj on Thursday proposed sending an all-party delegation to Nepal to assess the ongoing crisis. She said that the Centre had not imposed any blockade along the Indo-Nepal border, and was in fact trying to re-route supplies to the country, reported PTI. "India's only interest is in a peaceful, united and stable Nepal and our approach to the present crisis is completely consistent with these objectives," Swaraj said.
Indo-Nepal relations have soured after protests by Indian-origin Madhesi protesters over the Himalayan nation's new Constitution, and allegations that India stopped the entry of essential goods through the border. Swaraj reiterated that the blockade was due to Nepalese people and protesters, and that India had no role in it. She added that the best solution would be a political one. Even as Swaraj made the suggestion, over two dozen activists who were protesting against the blockade were arrested outside the Indian embassy in Nepal.
