Congress leaders forced three adjournments of the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. They were protesting against Bharatiya Janata Party ministers Arun Jaitley and Piyush Goyal, who had disputed the allegations of former Congress member Kumari Selja that she was asked about her caste in a Gujarat temple during the United Progressive Alliance rule.
Leader of the House Jaitley said that Selja had said very “complimentary words” during her visit to the temple, while power minister Goyal said that Congress members were trying to create “manufactured problems” and “manufactured discrimination”. His comment further agitated Congress members who, led by Selja, rushed to the well of the House, reported PTI.
The House reassembled at 3 pm after three adjournments, which was followed by a short discussion on the Chennai floods. The Selja remark issue is still pending and a decision on it will be taken tomorrow.
