German car manufacturer Volkswagen has decided to recall 3,23,000 diesel cars in India starting December, for violating the country's anti-pollution norms, a senior government official told Reuters on Tuesday. The recall affects all the cars sold from 2008 till the end of November 2015 that are fitted with 1.2-litre, 1.5-litre, 1.6-litre, and 2.0-litre EA 189 diesel engines, reported the Financial Express.
This is the biggest-ever vehicle recall ordered in India, beating the previous record of 223,578 by Honda Cars India in September this year, reported Business Standard. The recall includes 198,500 cars from the Volkswagen brand, 88,700 cars from Skoda and 36,500 cars from Audi. A Volkswagen Group India spokesman declined an immediate comment, saying that the company will issue a statement.
