Actor Shah Rukh Khan on Tuesday appeared to come out in support of fellow Bollywood star Aamir Khan, who last week came under fire for his statements on the growing intolerance in the country. Shah Rukh Khan told CNN-IBN in an interview that generic statements can be radicalised, and that he himself would only speak up about issues he has detailed knowledge of, such as acting. He added that nobody needed to prove their patriotism and that the only way anyone can do so is by working for the benefit of the country.
Aamir Khan's statements on his wife contemplating leaving India because of perceived rise in intolerance and violence received tremendous flak online. While Aamir Khan did not specifically say he wanted to leave the country, many interpreted his conversation with his wife as 'unpatriotic', and spewed vitriol online, including uninstalling the app for e-commerce major SnapDeal, for which the actor is the brand ambassador.
