Nestle India reiterated on Friday that its products are safe to consume, after samples of its pasta product were found to have lead content beyond permissible limits in tests conducted by a government lab in Uttar Pradesh. Nestle said it will work with the authorities to resolve the issue at the earliest, reported PTI.
A UP state government official had said that Pazzta samples collected from a Nestle distributor on June 10 were sent to the National Food Analysis Laboratory in Lucknow, which found the lead content to be 6 parts per million, beyond the permissible limit of 2.5 parts per million.
A statement from the Nestle India said, "Maggi Pazzta is 100% safe. We have seen media reports claiming that lead has been found in the product and we are investigating. We regret the confusion that these reports may be causing. They are safe to consume."
Nestle India is already involved in a court battle with the Maharashtra government regarding its Maggi instant noodles product. In June this year, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India had banned Maggi, terming the product "unsafe and hazardous" for human consumption.
