The Supreme Court on Friday directed former Union minister Dayanidhi Maran to appear before the Central Bureau of Investigation on November 30, in connection with the telephone exchange case in which he is accused of abusing his official position and causing a loss Rs 1.78 crore to the public exchequer. PTI reported that a bench headed by Justice TS Thakur extended interim relief and protection against arrest, but asked Maran to cooperate in the case. Maran will be questioned for seven days starting on November 30. The apex court also ordered the CBI to inform it if Maran does not appear for his interrogation. Sun TV, owned by Maran’s brother Kalanithi Maran, allegedly used 323 telephone lines installed in Dayanidhi’s home, to uplink the channel between 2004 and 2007.
