Three armed militants were killed in a gunfight with Indian soldiers on Wednesday after they attacked an Army post at Tangdhar in Jammu and Kashmir along the Line of Control. PTI reported that one civilian was also killed in the encounter. According to the report, the three militants entered the camp around 6.15 am on Wednesday, opened fire and threw grenades. An Army oil depot caught fire, as the armed forces fired back and a massive combing and search operation was started, NDTV reported.
The Army confirmed that all three militants were killed after seven hours of intense gun-battle. Tangdhar sector is close to the LoC in Kupwara district and has been used as an infiltration route in the past, said the report.
On Tuesday, the Indian Army recovered several improvised explosive devices and ammunition from Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir. The operation was carried out by the Rashtriya Rifles battalion, Territorial Army and the Jammu and Kashmir police, reported ANI. The Army has been engaged in search operations to flush out terrorists from the Rajwar forests in Handwara. Three security personnel were injured: a Lieutenant-Colonel and two jawans.
