Scientist RK Pachauri, who is facing accusations of sexual harassment, was on Monday allowed by a court to travel to Paris at the same time the global climate change conference will be held there next month. He has been invited for a meeting of the South-South Cooperation on Climate Change, reported The Indian Express. Pachauri is a two-time chairman of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, a United Nations-backed body of scientists. He had to step down from his post at the IPCC after he was accused of sexual harassment earlier this year by a junior colleague at The Energy and Resources Institute in Delhi. While he was regular at climate conferences as the IPCC head, it is not clear whether he will be able to attend the Paris conference.

The 29-year-old woman who had accused Pachauri of molesting her resigned from TERI last month. She claimed she had been “mistreated in the worst possible manner”, and accused the institution of creating a hostile environment, with its governing council doing nothing to ensure that her career was not jeopardised. TERI’s governing council is likely to meet in December to decide on Pachauri’s association with the organisation.
