The Delhi Assembly Speaker on Tuesday suspended Bharatiya Janata Party MLA OP Sharma for two days for using derogatory language against Aam Aadmi Party legislator Alka Lamba. The Statesman reported that during a discussion on night shelters, Sharma insulted Lamba, causing furore in the Assembly. Speaker Ram Niwas Goel suspended Sharma till Thursday, though women legislators demanded his suspension for the entire winter session.
AAP legislators also demanded an apology from Opposition leader Vijender Gupta over Sharma’s comment. Delhi chief minister and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal tweeted that he was shocked after hearing about Sharma’s remark and said he hoped the BJP would take action against him.
