Rubabuddin Sheikh on Monday withdrew his application that challenged the clean chit given to Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah in the fake encounter case in which his brother Sohrabuddin Sheikh was allegedly killed. Rubabuddin Sheikh said he had come to his conclusion on his own and that he was sure he wanted to drop the plea, The Indian Express reported. On October 20, the Bombay High Court had given him a month’s time to consider the decision to ensure he could make it without any external pressure.
Rubabuddin was the first person to bring the case to light. He had written to the Chief Justice of India on January 14, 2007, alleging that Sohrabuddin was killed in a fake encounter by Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad officials. In 2014, Rubabuddin had expressed shock that all charges had been dropped against Shah. Sohrabuddin Sheikh and his wife Kauser Bi were allegedly abducted by the ATS officials and killed in Gandhinagar in 2005.
