Sri Lanka has emerged as the likely venue for a bilateral cricket series between India and Pakistan later this year, reported PTI on Monday. An official announcement may be made on November 27, the report said. The move was on the cards after the Board of Control for Cricket in India had made it clear that its team will not play in the United Arab Emirates, and the Pakistan Cricket Board refused to play in India.
With only one month’s window available after India finish playing their ongoing Test Series against South Africa on December 7, the Indo-Pak series is likely to be restricted to three One-Day Internationals and two Twenty20 Internationals, according to the report. The series will be confirmed after PCB chief Shahryar Khan gets the green light from Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, it added.
While Pakistan has been playing its home matches in the UAE since the terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore in 2009, the BCCI has been averse to playing in the Gulf nation for the last 15 years, alleging it to be a haven for betting and match-fixing. India and Pakistan last played each other in a bilateral series in 2012-13.
