Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday reiterated India's position on terrorism, saying that it can derail economies and the world must speak in one voice against it. He added that countries must be held accountable for sanctuaries and support of terrorism.
Delivering the 37th Singapore Lecture, Modi said, “In the flux our times, the most critical need in this region is to uphold and strengthen the rules and norms. India will lend its strength to keep the seas safe, secure and free for the benefit of all.”
The prime minister added that in the last 18 months, his government has engaged more with the Asia Pacific region than any other in the world. He also spoke about the need to scale up economic engagement with all the different parts of Asia.
Modi also stressed that the world leaders “must achieve a concrete outcome” at the United Nations climate change conference in Paris later this month, which would be “in accordance with the principles of UN Framework Convention on Climate Change”.
