An earthquake of magnitude 5.9 hit northern Afghanistan early on Monday morning, though no casualties have been reported reported so far. The earthquake originated around 300 kilometres north-east of Kabul, was 92.4 kilometres deep and took place at 2.16 am local time, the United States Geological Survey reported. The tremors were felt across Afghanistan, north Pakistan and parts of north India including Delhi, NDTV reported.

In October, a massive 7.5-magnitude earthquake had struck Afghanistan and Pakistan killing more than 400 people and destroying property worth billions. People in remote areas were worst affected as rescue efforts found it difficult to reach them. The area is prone to devastating earthquakes, a massive on in 2005 killing more than 75,000 people.
