The Union cabinet on Wednesday cleared a proposal to provide 3,000 state government jobs and 6,000 transit accommodations for Kashmiri migrants in the country. It also enhanced monetary assistance for families displaced from Jammu, bring it on a par with money given to Kashmiri migrants. The provision of jobs will cost the exchequer Rs 1,080 crore whereas Rs 920 crore will be spent on providing accommodation.
Around 62,000 Kashmiri pandit migrants families are registered with the government, out of which 39,000 stay in Jammu, 19,000 in Delhi and the remaining in other parts of the country, a statement from the government said. The decision comes close on the heels of the Prime Minister's announcement on November 7 of a Rs 80,000-crore package to the state for various projects.
