Facebook Inc deactivated the account of a woman named Isis Anchalee earlier in the week, allegedly because her first name is spelt the same as the acronym for the Islamic State group. Anchalee, an engineer based in San Francisco, said her account was not reactivated even after she sent proof of her identity to the company and repeatedly requested them to allow her access to her Facebook account. She took to Twitter to voice her concerns over the issue.
Facebook Inc said that it was an error and apologised to her, though it took a day for her account to be up and running again. In a statement, the company also said that the incident was not connected to Anchalee’s name.
