Intelligence agencies have around 150 Indians under surveillance for following Islamic State propaganda and being sympathetic to the group’s activities. Most of them are from southern parts of India, officials said, and are in touch with IS activists online. The Times of India reported that though officials are not planning a crackdown on the list of IS supporters, they plan to keep tabs on them in order to pre-empt joining the militant organisation. They might intervene and inform families or facilitate counselling, if it is necessary. Earlier in the year, a report had said that 23 Indians joined the IS and travelled to Iran and Syria to fight for the group. Earlier, around 30 Indians were prevented from travelling to the mid-east and joining the IS, and 10 Indians were deported from the UAE after they were found to be communicating with members of the group.

Press Trust of India said that the Home Ministry sent out an advisory on Wednesday which stated that the Paris attacks indicate the IS’ intention of expanding beyond Iran and Syria.
