Food regulator Food Safety and Standards Authority of India on Monday moved the Supreme Court against the Bombay High Court's decision to lift the ban on Maggi noodles, and asked for a stay on its sale. The FSSAI termed the High Court’s August 13 order as erroneous, PTI reported. It contended that the court had erred by asking Nestle India to provide samples for re-testing the snack instead of asking a neutral authority to do so. The petition also dismissed “adverse remarks” made against FSSAI officials by the court.

In August, the Bombay High Court had set aside a ban on the product by the FSSAI and asked for new tests, saying the food labs that had tested the samples were not authorised. The court had said Nestle India could re-launch the product if the results were clean. After the noodles brand passed the tests in three government-accredited laboratories in October, it was declared safe to re-enter the market.
