A captain of the Indian Army was killed when their army patrol was hit by an avalanche at the Siachen Glacier in Jammu and Kashmir's Ladakh region, an official said. The others in the army patrol were rescued and are being treated, reported IANS.
"Captain Ashwini Kumar of Ladakh Scouts was killed when an army patrol was hit by an avalanche in the southern ridge of the Siachen Glacier," said Colonel SD Goswami, spokesman of the army's Udhampur-based Northern Command. Siachen is one of the toughest terrains for human habitation in the world. The Indian and Pakistan Army are both positioned there.
