President Pranab Mukherjee has given his assent to the Haryana Assembly’s cow protection Bill, which was passed in March this year, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said on Thursday. The Haryana Gauvansh Sanrakshan and Gausamvardhan Bill 2015 carries a provision of up to 10 years imprisonment for offenders. It also proposed a fine of up to Rs 1 lakh for cow slaughter, apart from the time in prison. As per current laws, the sale of beef is banned in Haryana, but the sale of packaged beef is allowed, according to a report in The Times of India. The new law would ban the sale of beef in any form.
