Eighty-nine persons were killed on Wednesday in incidents caused by a storm and heavy rainfall in Uttar Pradesh, the state’s relief commissioner said.
More than 50 people were injured and 87 homes were damaged, the official said. More than 100 livestock were also killed.
The deaths were caused by the uprooting of trees and electric poles, and structures such as houses and sheds being damaged, The Hindu reported.
The relief commissioner said that Chief Minister Adityanath had ordered divisional commissioners and district magistrates to verify such losses within 24 hours and disburse financial assistance to the families.
