Two separate low-intensity explosions were reported within hours of each other near military installations in Punjab’s Jalandhar and Amritsar on Tuesday night, The Hindu reported.

The first incident took place in Jalandhar around 8 pm, when a scooter parked near the Border Security Force’s Punjab Frontier headquarters caught fire. Residents in the area reported hearing a loud sound.

Jalandhar Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur said that the matter was under investigation, the newspaper reported.

A second suspected low-intensity explosion was heard around 10.50 pm near the boundary wall of the Khasa cantonment area in Amritsar, ANI reported.

The police said they received information about a loud noise and reached the spot along with Army personnel.

Amritsar Rural Senior Superintendent of Police Sohail Qasim Mir said that a tin sheet attached to the cantonment boundary wall was found damaged and had collapsed, ANI reported.

Mir added that preliminary findings suggested that an object may have been thrown at the wall, triggering a small explosion. No casualties or major damage were reported, he added.

Superintendent of Police Aditya S Warrier said that bomb disposal and forensic teams had been deployed to examine the site and collect evidence, ANI reported.

The incidents came days after an alleged attempt to trigger an explosion on a railway track in Patiala district on April 27, in which the accused died, The Indian Express reported.
