At least 31 persons were killed in a suicide attack at a Shia mosque in Pakistani capital Islamabad on Friday, Dunya News reported.
Hundred and sixty-nine persons were injured in the blast, the news portal quoted Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Irfan Memon as saying.
The explosion at the imambargah, or a congregation hall, located in Shehzad area on the outskirts of the city, occurred after the Friday prayers, AFP quoted an unidentified police officer as saying.
The toll is “expected to rise further”, the officer told the news agency.
The attacker was stopped at the gate and detonated himself, AFP quoted an unidentified security official as saying.
No militant group had immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
