A man was detained following an alleged attack at the Ohio residence of United States Vice President JD Vance, CNN reported on Monday.
Vance and his family were not at the home in Cincinnati at the time of the incident.
The authorities do not believe that the person entered the house, CNN reported. Authorities are also investigating whether he was targeting Vance or his family.
While photographs posted on social media showed damage to the windows of the house, it was not clear what caused the damage.
Later that day, Vance said on social media: “As far as I can tell, a crazy person tried to break in by hammering the windows. I'm grateful to the secret service and the Cincinnati police for responding quickly.”
Anthony Guglielmi, a US Secret Service spokesperson, said that the man, who has not been identified, was detained “for causing property damage, including breaking windows on the exterior of a personal residence associated with” the vice president, CNN reported.
The incident took place shortly after midnight.
Guglielmi said that the “US Secret Service is coordinating with the Cincinnati Police Department and the US Attorney’s Office as charging decisions are reviewed”.
