The Raghopur seat has been dominated by the RJD since it was won by party founder and Tejashwi Yadav’s father Lalu Prasad Yadav in 1995. The only exception was between 2010 and 2015, when the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal (United) held it.
Tejashwi Yadav has held the seat since 2015.
The RJD is a part of the Opposition Mahagathbandhan alliance. The alliance also comprises the Congress, the Vikassheel Insaan Party and three Left parties – the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation, the Communist Party of India and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) – along with the Indian Inclusive Party.
The ruling National Democratic Alliance has won the elections, after winning 125 seats and leading in 79.
