At least 10 persons died in rain-related incidents in Maharashtra in the past two days, The Indian Express reported on Monday.

Four deaths took place in the Nashik district, two each in Dharashiv and Ahilyanagar and one each in Jalna and Yavatmal, the state disaster management department said.

Several parts of Marathwada and western Maharashtra received heavy rains in the past two days. While the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar district received 110.3 mm rains, Ahilyanagar got 81.8 mm and Nashik got 76.6 mm, the Hindustan Times reported.

Till Sunday evening, the authorities had shifted more than 11,000 persons to safer locations. Of these, 7,200 persons were from the Marathwada region.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reviewed relief and rescue operations in the Marathwada region and Solapur district. He told district collectors to provide food, shelter and other essentials to the affected persons, the Hindustan Times reported.

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde reviewed the situation in the Thane and Palghar districts. “The administration is on high alert and the doors of Bhatsa Dam [near Shahapur in Thane district] have been opened,” he said.

The India Meteorological Department had issued an orange alert for Mumbai, requiring authorities to “be prepared” for heavy rains. On Monday, the warning was downgraded to a yellow alert, requiring authorities to “be aware” of the weather situation.

Mumbai has recorded its wettest September in the four years, The Indian Express reported. The city has received 606.1 mm rainfall in the month so far, the newspaper quoted data from the India Meteorological Department as saying.

The previous wettest September was in 2021, when Mumbai received 744.2 mm rainfall.
