Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday announced a scheme to give financial assistance to one woman from each family to begin an employment venture of their choice.
Under the scheme, titled the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rozgar Yojana, one woman from each family in the state will be given Rs 10,000 as the first instalment to start an employment venture, Kumar announced on X.
These employment initiatives will be reviewed six months after they are launched. Further financial assistance of up to Rs 2 lakh will be disbursed as per the needs of the initiative.
The move comes months ahead of the Assembly elections expected to be held in Bihar in October or November.
The process of accepting applications under the scheme will begin soon, the chief minister said, adding that funds will start being disbursed from September.
Kumar expressed confidence that the scheme “will not only further strengthen the position of women but will also provide better employment opportunities within the state”. He added that citizens will not need to leave the state to find jobs if better opportunities are provided within Bihar.
On July 17, Kumar also announced that up to 125 units of electricity will be free for consumers in the state.
The Janata Dal (United) leader also said that in the next three years, solar power plants will be installed on rooftops of all domestic consumers, with their consent, or at nearby public places.
